Michelle Brooks started her love affair with Storytelling when she was successfully accepted into the Rose Bruford Drama School to study Speech and Drama.
When a lack of quality diverse scripts forced her to change creative direction she chose to generate her own content, go behind the camera and became an experienced Writer/Director and Creative. With over twenty years experience in TV Michelle has worked for various companies including the BBC, UKTV, Red Bee Media, Twitter UK, Community Channel and Viacom Networks.
In addition to having written and directed short-form films, sizzle reels and tasters for the BBC and UKTV Channels Michelle Produced several documentary features for OHTV, Sky Channel 199, the last of which “Black Women in the Media” went onto receive massive success generating 9.2 million views online.
In 2013 Michelle Produced for BBC Children in Need in Salford and in 2017 she went on to become Twitter UK’s first ever Live Video Producer.
A skilled Editor on Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Avid Michelle also shoots video on her Canon 5D MKIII camera and XF305 and is experienced in working with actors Directing them for voiceovers and performance to camera.
Awards and Affiliations
Michelle has been nominated for a UK Promax for her Black History Month Factual Generic and more recently Awarded a Mayor of London Culture Seed for her much Celebrated Windrush Storytelling Event – The Reminiscence Room which toured venues throughout West London from May to November 2019.
Committed to fairness and community minded Michelle gives back through TV Industry panels, mentoring and workshops and is a member of the BFI, RTS and the BECTU WPD Committee where she sets up events including the Freelancers Fair for the UK Freelancers Community.
Digital and Live Video
In 2017 Michelle turned her hand to the world of Digital where she headed up the Live Video Team for Twitter UK and streamed Sport and News footage to mobile phones across Europe. The shows she aired included the PGA Tour Golf, Westminster Attacks, The Grenfell Fire, One Love Manchester and the BBC Elections.
Throughout the recent Pandemic Michelle continued to champion Live Video and streaming. Throughout Lockdown Michelle has been running regular Facebook Live Creative Specials commentating on her TV Production practices, the state of the UK Covid19 Crisis and also the Black Lives Matter Movement Protests triggered by the tragic death of George Floyd.
Michelle is an up and coming author and has a podcast coming out in the Autumn.
